These results show displacement and strain fields for the "plate hole" sample from SEM's DIC challenge. This image set is a good way to demonstrate that the DIC algorithm is working properly for complex ROIs, since there's a hole in the middle of the sample. The parameters used were:

  • Image Resolution: 400x1040
  • Analysis Type: regular
  • RG-DIC Radius: 20
  • Strain Radius: 5
  • Subset Spacing: 1
  • Diffnorm Cutoff: 1e-06
  • Iteration Cutoff: 50
  • Step Analysis: Disabled
  • RG-DIC Subset Truncation: Disabled
  • Strain Subset Truncation: Disabled

The Lagrangian displacement fields for the last image in the set (with a postfix of 11) are shown below:

For the strains, animations for the Eulerian-Almansi strain tensor are shown below (click them for a larger view)

Eyy Strain

Exy Strain

Exx Strain

Note that Exx is very small in magnitude since the sample is under tension in the y direction.
